Black Hearts Review

Black Hearts is a BRAND NEW STANDALONE DUET – the second book and conclusion, Dirty Souls, releases March 17th.

For Vicente Bernal, truth is all he’s known. The son of an infamous drug lord, Vicente was born to help run the family business, which means he’s been raised on a throne of sordid pasts and dirty laundry, violence and pride. But when Vicente stumbles across someone he’s not supposed to know about – a woman from his father’s checkered past – he sets out to California to find her behind his father’s back.

What Vicente doesn’t expect to find in San Francisco is Violet McQueen, the woman’s twenty-year old daughter. Beautiful and edgy with a vulnerability he can’t resist, Violet tempts Vicente from afar and though he promised himself he’d stay away from her, curiosity and lust are powerful forces. Besides, Vicente has always gotten everything he wants – why shouldn’t he have Violet too?

Soon his wants turn into an obsession, one that sweeps Violet into his games as they fall madly, deeply in love with each other, the type of first love that can drive a person mad.

But it’s a love with tragic consequences.

Both the truth – and the lies – not only threaten to tear them apart, but threaten their very lives.

Someone has to pay for the sins of the fathers.

And they’ll be paying the price with their souls.

☆4 stars☆
I have never read either dirty angels trilogy or sins and needles trilogy and that didn’t affect the story at all! Going in I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Black Hearts as darker romances aren’t usual in my wheel house. I really enjoyed Black Hearts though!!
The story is a bit dark so understand that going in. I like Violet a lot, she is strong and smart. She trusts her gut and starts to question things that aren’t right. Vicente isn’t always the perfect guy. He comes from a very dark place, but I love being in his head and learning what he is thinking. I think the two of them together are pure chemistry I don’t think either of them expected. They mesh mentally and they really understand each other. I believe Vicente truly has Violet’s best interest in mind. They have a true connection, they also are crazy hot together!! They have some of the hottest scenes! All their chemistry truly explodes in the bedroom..
or at times in a forest.
There were times the story flirted with being a little dark for me, it never turned me off to the story. I wasn’t happy with how the story ended, but that is how a good duology book should finish. I didn’t realize how close I was to the end and suddenly swiped the screen and it was all over! I was bummed there wasn’t more, but good news is the follow up is out next month!!!
