So Jay had been eluding to a surprise release unlike her normal books in her reader group for a bit now. Retreat is more of a wilderness and suspense romance. It still has the great emotions and character development that I have come to love from Jay. Katie and I will read everything that she writes and a huge fans of hers! Retreat was a huge hit for us like anything else she writes.
Every once in a while, you need to get away from it all.
You know what I love more than a Jay Crownover book? A suprise release Jay Crownover book! I love Retreat and I loved reading a more suspense read from her and something unlike what she hs written before. Unlike other Jay books this was single POV which I don’t usually like as much, but I liked that this book was only Leo and left a little more mystery from Cy. And I loved having the mystery about him. He is a big grumpy ‘almost’ cowboy. I really liked how Cy and Leo play off each other. They are both stubborn and want control. It realy plays well and I liked the feel of their relationship. I really enjoyed the suspense element to the story. It felt new and interesting, I loved trying to piece together what was going on. I really enjoyed the flow and story of Leo and Cy’s relationship. I anm so excited to get to the next story, especially with how things shook out at the end! Bottom line, Jay slays everything!
Jay Crownover can do no wrong. She really can write anything and I’ll read it cause I know it will be entertaining and keep me interested. Retreat was definitely different from her other books, but it was still a great read. I will say that I do like her other two series better, but this was still a funny and intriguing book to read. There were some twists and turns that kept the story interesting and, as always, well written characters that are easy to like. I really enjoyed reading from Leo’s POV. She’s quite funny and I absolutely loved her relationship with Cy. It wasn’t a normal and predictable relationship, so it keeps you wondering how everything is going to work out in the end. Cy was also a hoot and very mysterious at times. I did miss having chapters from his perspective, especially since I’m used to having both in all of Jay’s books. I think it would have added a bit to the book, but I get why she wanted it only from Leo’s POV. I can’t wait for Shelter, especially with how this ends; it makes me very curious as to how everything is going to go down.
